three things i'm currently loving (june 2021)
Here are three things I am currently loving …
Joy and Sorrow Holding Hands
by Tyson Motsenbocker
There are some musicians who, for one reason or another, get you.
You aren’t sure how, but you feel as though everything they create was created just for you.
That’s how I feel about Tyson Motsenbocker.
If you’ve never listened to his music before, well, I think you should.
Tyson recently delivered a Ted Talk titled ‘Joy and Sorrow Holding Hands.’
I’ve watched it a few times and thought you might enjoy it as well.
It’s honest and insightful and at times heartbreaking and other times comical.
You can watch it on YouTube.
And you can thank me later.
Pandemic Prayers and Poetry
by Sarah Bourns
At some point during the Pandemic I came across Sarah’s work.
I’m not sure how, but I’m glad I did.
I remember being mesmerized by how she pieced together her thoughts and kindly communicated hope.
Her words are honest and pure; words that reflect the heart of God and encourage the reader to take a step deeper.
Throughout the Pandemic she began writing prayers and poems.
Last week she released a collection of those prayers and poems.
I had the pleasure of writing an endorsement for her book, Pandemic Prayers and Poetry.
“Out of the darkness of 2020 came this beautiful book of light.
Sarah’s words are timeless, honest, and faithful.
Each piece beautifully wraps hope and sincerity, giving the reader something special.
I found myself re-reading her words, not because I didn’t understand, but because I knew spending time with them would take me deeper.”

It Is What You Make of It
by Justin McRoberts
Over the last few years Justin McRoberts has been a steady voice in my life.
Like Tyson and Sarah, his words have struck a chord with me.
His words remind me of the truth, invite me to pause, and encourage me to take another step forward.
And that’s exactly what his book, ‘It Is What You Make of It’ does.
I wanted to come up with a clever way to describe his masterpiece, but the Amazon description does a far better job than I’ll ever do …
With warmth, wisdom, and humor, McRoberts shares key moments from his twenty-plus years as an artist, church planter, pastor, singer-songwriter, author, neighbor, and father, passing on lessons and practices learned about making something good from what you’ve been given rather than simply accepting things as they are.
Thought-provoking but actionable, It Is What You Make of It declares that love doesn’t just win, mercy doesn’t just triumph, and light doesn’t just cast out shadow. Rather, such renewal requires the work of human hands and hearts committed to a vision of a world made right (or at least a little better). When we partner with God in these endeavors, we love the world well and honor the Creator in whose image we are made.
Grab Justin’s book on Amazon.
You won’t be disappointed.
