New

New
Part of the January Writing Prompt Series.

This morning I walked up the street towards the rising sun.
Again, I couldn’t sleep.
My mind was moving and I decided my feet should as well.
Light slowly pushed the dark aside as I walked up the hill outside our home.
Shadows followed as the late fall breeze rolled towards me.
I pushed my hands deep into my pockets and pressed on.
I inhaled deep, closing my eyes for a step or two.
The cool air scratched down my lungs like nails on a chalkboard.
I exhaled and saw my breath escape before my now open eyes.
I thanked God.
This quiet thanks was the start of my morning prayer.

I felt known.

I felt new.

An invitation to begin again.

With hope,

Tanner
