Just A Reminder
After four months of speaking, sharing, and performing I was heading to my last speaking event of the year.
Somewhere between another podcast and another New Found Glory record my phone buzzed with a text:
“Just a reminder that you’re loved regardless of your performance.”
His words struck like lightning, lighting up the darkness that needed to be confronted.
And the darkness often needs to be confronted.
I needed these 10 words to come across my screen.
I think we’ve all come to believe things that simply aren’t true.
We aren’t enough.
We aren’t accepted.
We aren’t wanted.
We aren’t _____ or _____.
For me, one of those lies is that I need to perform to be loved.
Somewhere deep inside is a dark lie that I cannot be accepted for just being me, but rather, I have to do something to earn your love.
Or appreciation.
Or friendship.
Lies exhaust, while the truth brings life.
And in the quiet the truth is written clear:
you are loved.
Right now.
Right here.
It is written clear.
Here is your reminder that you are loved regardless of your performance.
You are loved regardless of your appearance.
You are loved regardless of your feelings.
You are loved regardless of your title, bank account, or number of followers.
You are loved.
As hard as it may be to hear, you are loved.
