Three Reminders This Thanksgiving

Three Reminders This Thanksgiving.

The Holidays bring a flurry of emotions and feelings.

And calories.

Joy. Fear. Anticipation. Sadness. Anger. Content.

Due to the Pandemic this Thanksgiving will certainly look different.

Your family traditions might be taking place over Zoom or outside and six feet apart.

Perhaps they won’t be happening at all this year.

However this Thanksgiving finds you, here are three reminders to keep close.

One.
You belong. You do.

I often fight the lie that I do not belong. My troubled mind makes up stories as to why others don’t want me around. Perhaps your mind does the same thing.

So hear it from me: this is not true.

Here is the truth: You belong. You do.

And we are just happy you are here.

Two.
I’m trying is a perfectly good answer.

I bet one of the most used sentences this year is “What a year it has been!”
And it’s true.
What a year this has been.
Many of my goals and dreams for this year vanished.
It’s been hard to get out of bed.
It’s been a struggle to find the energy to exercise.
It’s been a tough year for me to be me.
And maybe this is true for you as well.

We need to give ourselves grace the same way we add gravy to mashed potatoes.
And my mashed potatoes are covered in gravy.

Cover yourself in grace.

Three.
The table won’t always look this way.

Find a moment to take it all in.
The faces. The sounds. The smells.
Think back to last Thanksgiving.
Everything can change so quickly.
Breathe it in.

The table won’t always look this way.
Slow down.
Lean in.
Give thanks.
Get yourself another slice of pie.

Happy Thanksgiving.
