sadness.

The older I grow the more my memory fades, but there is still a part of me still stuck in 8th grade.

Back when my innocence lived on, we’d stay up late watching The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, these were the days when Stacy’s mom had it goin’ on and those days are long gone.

And those days, I was slowly beginning to realize that these eyes were growing wide as I journeyed through common 14 year-old lows and highs.

In those days, I had the world in front of me and as far as I could see life was always going to be young and free.

I had curious questions I would ask without hesitation or fear of rocking the foundation.

I had little worries and big dreams and now I have big worries and little dreams if I can ever stop counting sheep and find the peace to sleep.

But time never stops, and it fails to rewind or be kind, and combined with wondering how and why, I seem confined to feeling behind.

And today I miss not knowing what it’s like to be older than I am.

And today I miss family dinners and recess and not knowing about gray hair inducing stress.

And today I miss studying for spelling tests, eating lunch at 10:43 instead of noon, logging on to A.I.M. to say what’s up with you, lol, idk, ttyl, be back soon.

I’ll never get back to 8th grade and that’s okay.

When it comes to time, we always pay a price and God knows we weren’t created to be in middle school twice.

I feel far from the 8th grade boy I once was, but he’s still part of me.

And I’m sure 8th grade me would have had question after question about who we came to be.

And all i can say is we …

We aren’t done.

If anything, we’ve just begun.

.. .. ..

With hope,

Tanner Olson
