Happy Mother’s Day!
I wouldn’t be who I am or where I am without my mom.
I am okay with admitting I am a momma’s boy.

There are worse things one could be.

Last week I came to the realization once again that my mom is more than my mom, but she is my friend.

I’m not a parent, but I feel as though this is the hope.
For your child to one day call you a friend.
And for you to call your child a friend.

My mom and I were not always friends.
Especially when she wouldn’t let me watch certain movies or told me I needed to eat vegetables before getting up from the dinner table.
Apparently, she had my best interest at heart.
There was struggle and tears and pain.
I’m sure I pushed her to the point of giving up or in the very least, pushed her to her knees to beg God for things to change.
I’m sure.
We were all 12 and 15 and 17.
Those are ages where grace and forgiveness are desperately needed.
And she gave it.
I was a handful.

i was a handful.

… I am a handful.

But through the dirt of childhood and struggle grew something beautiful and delicate.

And for this, I thank God.

But I know this isn’t what all relationships become.

Life is messy.
People are messy.
And not every story ends the way we hope.

To all of those who struggle with today ...
To all who feel abandoned ...
To those who feel guilty ...
To those who feel pain ...
To those who mourn …
To those who are just ready for tomorrow ...

To those who ask how and when and why ...
To those who dream of being a mother and are still without answers ...

We see you and sit with you.

Without words, but with love.
Without questions, but with faith.
Without answers, but with hope.
