Joy.

My hand scribbles across the page...

“There is joy in this.”

And I wondered, is this true?

My hand has written many things and smeared even more.
My soul has written books and novels, but the right hand of my overthinking mind has deleted every single one of them.

But maybe these five words will remain.

There is joy in this.

It sounded true in my mouth, but it felt like a lie to my eyes.

I’ve been staring deep into those five words on a single line like they’re the sunset ending the day, dipping into the sea and, without the sunlight it’s hard to see, but still, there is joy in this.

Or at least I’m beginning to see with the growing and groaning light of the sunrise that these five words are true, despite the darkness and moments of feeling broken and blue.

Despite the wondering and sadness and sentences you just don’t quite know how to end …

There is.

There is joy in this.

The lie that once found my eyes was the truth dressed up in a disguise.

There is joy in this.

.. .. ..

With hope,
