i trust

My word for this month is trust. I wrote about it here.

But I wasn’t quite done writing.

The other day I jotted down a few things that I trust.

Or a few things that I am learning to trust.

Or a few things that I hope to trust.

.. .. ..

I trust … something more is happening here.

I trust … You are who You say You are.

I trust …  there is hope in this.

I trust … love is here.

I trust … joy is alive.

I trust … this is not the end.

I trust … Your goodness is following me.

I trust … that when you said “it is finished” that it truly is finished.

I trust … mercy is for me.

I trust … fear is not a good enough reason to keep me from moving forward.

I trust … You are making all things new.

I trust … Your peace passes all my understanding (and that that is a good thing).

I trust … You keep Your promises.

I trust … Your faithfulness is not simply a season.

I trust … life is better together than alone.

I trust … life is more than my desires.

I trust … kindness is always the right response.

I trust … that I am more than my feelings.

I trust … I am not my past.

I trust … that grace is for me.

I trust … this is still not the end.

I trust … You care about my heart.

I trust … You hear me when I pray.

I trust … a new season is coming.

I trust … there is something for me here.

I trust … everlasting life is for me.

I trust … my ______ doesn’t define me.

I trust … You are for me.

.. .. ..

As I wrote these down the word trust began to sound more like believe. and hope.

And perhaps when it comes to trust, belief and hope are intertwined tightly to create a beautiful foundation for trust to grow with faith.

I don’t know.

But I think what I am learning is that trust doesn’t come easy for everyone.

I don’t think it is supposed to be easy.
Beautiful things aren’t always easy.
Or effortless.
Or as they seem.

As I think about trust I begin to see …

There is wrestling here.
There is a back and forth and an up and down and an inside and out.
There is a season and storm and struggle and celebration.
There is a broken heart and hopeful smile and the moments of deep breaths between.
There is a mind with a million questions and a few good answers.
There is a mind with a million good answers and a few heavy questions.
There is an up all night wondering and peaceful sleep.
There is everything before, in-between, and beyond.

But when I close my eyes and slowly exhale …
My prayer is short:
Teach me to trust You.
Because I know trust is beautiful.
And I know it is how I want to live trusting.
And I know it won’t be easy to trust.
But to begin is awfully beautiful and brave.

.. .. ..

What do you trust?

.. .. ..

Peace,
Tanner
