I Need To Hear
This poem was written in response to a message I received from a friend.
She told him she felt guilty for wanting (and needing) to hear the things she knew were true. But sometimes the truth we know is the truth we need to hear.
And sometimes we have to be asked to be told the things we know just to hear them once again.
When the quiet comes and fails to calm there are things I need to hear .
I need to hear everything is going to be okay.
And I know I heard you tell me yesterday but tell me again that the way things are, aren’t the way they’ll always be.
And I need to hear that it’s love that casts out fear.
And I need to hear this is Christ’s body and this is Christ’s blood.
One was broken and one was poured,
but both were for us.
And I need to hear about how grace is enough.
And I need to hear that we are still friends and this is not the end.
And I need to hear that this is not forever.
And I need you to help me remember.
And I need to hear from you.
Because this life is too short to not speak
And this life is too hard to do alone week after week
And this life is too much to go through without one another
And this life is better when we hear from each other.
And I need to hear what it is you need to hear
So when the silence gets loud and quiet fails to calm
I can remind you that everything is okay.
that everything is okay.
everything is okay.
